Membership Guidelines
When you become a member of the Masterwork Chorus, you join a family that shares fellowship and common musical goals. Once you have auditioned and been accepted as a member of the Masterwork Chorus, you can look forward to a wonderful musical experience. But with Masterwork membership come the responsibilities of membership. Here is some information about our membership standards:
Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm at Xavier Center on the campus of the New Jersey Youth Symphony, New Providence, NJ . During concert weeks, dress and other rehearsals are scheduled according to orchestra and hall availability. In addition, two all-day (10 AM–4 PM) rehearsals are scheduled on a Saturday each fall and spring.
The music we perform is beautiful but challenging, and there is no substitute for consistent attendance at rehearsals and weekly practice of the music outside of rehearsal. Rehearsals begin promptly at 7:30 and we expect that each member will attend every rehearsal. If a member is unable to attend a rehearsal or will be late, he/she is expected to let their section leader know. Members who miss too many rehearsals will have to demonstrate their knowledge of the music to be performed.
Membership dues for the season are $250 and are payable either in full by the second rehearsal in September or in two payments (September and December). Any other arrangements must be made with the Membership Chairman. Each Member is expected to sell a minimum of 2 tickets to each non-Messiah concert. Ticket obligations, when members cannot find attendees, can always be met by contributing to our community outreach program of providing tickets for students and seniors.
A member will not be permitted to sing a concert unless the appropriate attire is worn. Each member of the chorus is reviewed and/or re-auditioned annually and sections are re-auditioned every three years. No member may sing a concert until the membership review and/or audition has been completed.
